The bottom lineFine bulbs at a great price, but they don't repeat Zigbee signal. Fill a house with them and your mesh gets thin fast.
What we like
- Inexpensive, especially in multi-packs
- Pairs directly into Home Assistant without the Sengled hub
- Bright, decent white light
What we don't
- Does not act as a Zigbee router, so it adds no mesh strength
- Big fleets of them lean hard on your other routers
We bought 23 of these. Here’s what we’d do differently.
Sengled bulbs made up most of our lighting because they were cheap. One by one, they’re perfectly good bulbs. The catch is architectural: they’re Zigbee end devices, so they talk to the hub but never pass messages along for anyone else.
That matters because Zigbee is a mesh. Devices far from the hub depend on mains-powered routers in between. Our house had 23 non-routing bulbs and not many routers, and when a chunk of the network dropped off in one night, whole rooms went dark together.
Should you buy them?
- Yes if you already have a strong mesh: several smart plugs, router bulbs, or smart switches spread around the house.
- No if they’d be most of your Zigbee devices. Spend a bit more on bulbs or plugs that repeat.
